Europe and Japan are not just distinct markets, they also possess different cultures. So naturally, each region has developed particular requirements for auto equipment. Valeo excels at rational development of heater technology and electrical/electronic components including actuators; we at VTSJ lead at optimizing air-conditioning cycles for better efficiency, and have introduced to the world such products as vane-rotary compressors and externally controlled variable-displacement compressors.
The integration of the two firms' approaches to research and development is entirely complementary. We are continuing to develop more optimized systems and products, like soft-diffusion system and cockpit modules. Our CAD/CAM systems enable us to communicate with customers quickly and to shorten development lead-time using simulation analysis of refrigerant flow and mechanical strength (structure). Further integration is ongoing everywhere in the world that we operate, making us particularly responsive to regional markets.
Working together with our suppliers, we successfully replaced 70% of vane-rotary compressor material with aluminum. We also design products for increased recyclability as well as reducing cost and lowering weight. For example, our new variable-displacement compressor has ultra-light pistons which feature easy-to-disassemble construction.
